| Variety | Why I'd consider it | Clay-soil fit | Season |
| ------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------- | ---------- |
| **Kennebec** | Excellent all-purpose potato, good yield, good storage | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Mid/late |
| **Norland** | Early, reliable red potato; good if you want potatoes sooner | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Early |
| **Yukon Gold** | Excellent eating quality, versatile, Canadian-developed | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Mid-season |
| **Chieftain** | Early-mid red, worth considering for a second red variety | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Early-mid |
| **Russet Burbank** | Great baking potato, but I wouldn't make it your first choice in clay | ⭐⭐ | Late |
