Why are my sweet potato leaves turning red?

Post by canadian-gardening » Thu Mar 12, 2026 5:18 pm

I have started sweet potato slips before and the leaves were green?
Is this normal?
I checked for bugs, the leaves are healthy.
Maybe too close to the grow-lights?

Has anyone else seen this with sweet potato slips?

Do yours stay red under grow lights?

Do they turn green once planted outside?

Update: the slips are still growing well under the grow lights.
Leaves still red but shiny and healthy.
The potato slips are started to vine, so I think I will trim them and start new plants.

Last year my sweet potato didn't root - this year it looks promising. :D
